In partnership with the Costa Rican Ministry of the Environment, Reserva Conchal has created the Wildlife Refuge – 95 acres of untouched, bio-sensitive land that include a mangrove preserve and research center. It’s natural conservation of the area functions under a unique concept, in which government conservation guidelines were considered to create a refuge properly managed by the private sector; internationally speaking is an unknown figure in conservation areas.

Since Reserva Conchal began its earliest stages of planning, the protection and preservation of the environment has always been the guiding principle and remains so today. Of the community’s 2,300 acres, a large part were rice fields and land for cattle ranching, of which Reserva Conchal has extensively reforested a significant amount with native Costa Rican plant species, turning the property into a lush and thriving tropical oasis.

More than 60 percent of the development will remain in its natural state and biological corridors have been protected to allow the myriad species of wildlife to move freely. Tours to the wildlife refuge, guided by trained naturalists, are open to the public and an environmental program for children is being planned.
