Wildlife Refuge & Trails

Explore Our Property in Costa Rica

Encompassing a broad range of ecosystems — including a dry forest, an estuary and a mangrove swamp — our 96-acre wildlife refuge is truly amazing. Home to approximately 32 species of birds, 12 species of mammals, eight species of reptiles and several amphibians, it also includes many different kinds of plants, such as the Guanacaste, the Rain Tree, the Kapok, the Carao and the Guácimo. Learn more about the flora and fauna you may encounter here!

The Reserva Conchal National Wildlife Refuge hosts many on-site research programs and environmental education classes throughout the year, such as our “Green Future” wetlands program. This program is popular among groups of schools, colleges and universities from both Costa Rica and around the world.

Discover a whole new world right on our property! Guests and homeowners of Reserva Conchal can visit our 98-acre on-site wildlife refuge at any time during their stay. The refuge features a two-kilometer trail offering nature-lovers and wildlife photography enthusiasts the ideal opportunity to capture the rich natural heritage of Costa Rica. The hike takes about 90-minute to complete and can be done on your own or with a guide.

Did you know that we also have an in-house biologist? Allow this expert to give you and your loved ones a special guided tour while pointing out beautiful butterflies, swinging monkeys, exotic birds, ring-tailed coatis, and other native wildlife hiding in the brush!

Nature Trails & Tours

We have big news! Our resort now features additional trails outside of the refuge that are excellent for guests of any skill level. No matter what kind of challenge you’re looking for – an invigorating jog or run among the trees, a thrilling bike ride spotting native birds, or a calming hike surrounded by many different elements of nature – these trails are the place to find what you seek.
